Course Overview

Microorganisms are biological entities, that create unique challenges to pharmaceutical manufacturing. Detection of microorganisms in some products can be relatively straightforward, requiring some level of investigation if they are detected.  However, in some situations, especially with sterile pharmaceutical products, their presence can seriously harm or even kill the end-user.  The presence of microorganisms can have an impact on product quality itself, but they can also have a significant impact on the ongoing operation and running of a facility and an organisation as well.  The control of microbial contamination is therefore essential.  This interactive webinar on microbiological control in pharmaceutical production provides an introduction to microbiology and how we can avoid and control them, to prevent them from having a negative impact with pharmaceutical production.

Course Content:

Our microbiological control in pharmaceutical production webinar includes the following topics:

  • What is microbiology?
  • Risks from microorganisms
  • Different types of microorganisms
  • Growth requirements
  • General sources of microorganisms and control approaches
  • The role of cleanrooms
  • Sterilisation and disinfection methods
  • Aseptic processing and terminal sterilisation
  • Microbiological testing of materials, product and the environment
